Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much income do I need to afford a bike?
Financial advisors recommend keeping your total monthly vehicle cost (EMI + fuel + insurance + maintenance) under 20–25% of your take-home income. For a ₹80,000 bike on 3-year loan at 12% interest with 20% down, monthly cost is ~₹3,500–4,500 including fuel and service.
What is the real monthly cost of owning a bike?
Real monthly bike ownership cost = EMI + monthly fuel (km/day × 30 ÷ mileage × petrol price) + monthly insurance (annual premium ÷ 12) + monthly service (annual service cost ÷ 12). For most commuter bikes, this totals ₹3,000–6,000/month.
Should I buy a bike on EMI or cash?
Buying on cash saves you 9–15% interest over the loan tenure (typically ₹5,000–20,000 on a ₹1 lakh bike). However, if keeping cash allows you to invest at >12% returns, an EMI can make financial sense. Use this calculator to compare both scenarios.
How is EMI calculated?
EMI = P × r × (1+r)^n / ((1+r)^n − 1), where P = loan, r = monthly rate, n = months. Reducing balance method.
What % of income should go to a bike?
Total bike cost should stay under 50% of available funds after expenses. We flag anything above 70% as "Not Recommended."
What is included in on-road price?
On-road = Ex-showroom + Road Tax + Registration + 1st year Insurance + Handling. Varies by state — our DB shows city-average estimates.
How is insurance calculated?
1st party based on bike's IDV × depreciation factor. 3rd party fixed by IRDAI by engine CC. Both divided by 12 for monthly cost.
Are EV running costs really lower?
Yes — charging costs ₹1–2/km vs ₹2.5–4/km for petrol. But battery replacement (₹40K–80K after 5–6 years) is a significant hidden cost we account for.
